If you plan on dancing at the event, most updos will not survive very long at all. Especially for Prom I suggest to most of my clients that they go with a sexy down style instead. Ultimately they tend to have alot more fun at the dance. Do not wash your hair the day of the event! Shampoos and conditioners make the hair slippery and lead to updo fall out. Make sure you use as many hair pins as possible. The more, the better. Hair is heavy and gravity is persistant.
I highly recommend a dry run. Have whoever is doing your hair practice on you a day or two before the event. Your success rate will be much higher.
